General Zod, born Dru-Zod, is a Kryptonian military leader and antagonist in the DC Extended Universe, specifically featured in the film Man of Steel (2013). He is portrayed by Michael Shannon.
Zod was genetically engineered to be a warrior, dedicated to protecting Krypton through any means necessary. He believed passionately in Kryptonian superiority and the preservation of their way of life.
Before Krypton's destruction, Zod led a military coup to overthrow the Kryptonian Council, believing they were leading the planet to ruin. This action resulted in his and his followers' banishment to the Phantom Zone, a prison dimension.
After escaping the Phantom Zone, Zod arrived on Earth seeking to terraform it into a new Krypton, willing to sacrifice humanity to achieve his goal.
